New Program - Virtual Shared Meals!

Caltech alumni and associates have priceless experience and a wealth of knowledge to share with Caltech students, who are genuinely eager for advice and support. To help connect these groups, CAEL introduced "Virtual Shared Meals."
This program began in April, 2020 as a response to restrictions imposed by COVID-19. A few alums were happy to pilot this program and it proved to be an instant hit with students (available slots typically fill up within minutes!) An undergrad participant said: "I really enjoyed getting to interact with an alum—I feel like we don't always get enough opportunities to do so, and this was nice even though virtual. Hearing about their path was reassuring in a way, but also very informative and helpful."
During these virtual shared meals, we bring together the alum/associate host and a small group of students in a fun and unique way on Zoom. With donated funds from the host, we provide the means for students to order their meal of choice online. At the designated time, everyone joins the Zoom meeting and spends about 1 ½ hours eating together and chatting about their Caltech experience and career path/goals.
We have received plenty of positive feedback from hosts and students that have enjoyed spending time together through these virtual shared meals!
If you are interested in hosting a virtual shared meal, or would like more information about these events, please contact Marie Lara (mlara@caltech.edu).
